Introducing GenX Junior of Junior’s Bourbon Hall

Hello Howdy and welcome to Junior’s bourbon hall which is my home bar.  My name is junior, and I am GenX.  I enjoy what I like and if I don’t like it don’t’ give a damn.  I am also interested in many many things, so I bounce around on what I like to do.  I have been trying to get a YouTube channel going and all I have been doing is making drinks by following a recipe.  This has given me some success but not much and well I probably wouldn’t be watching it either as you don’t really learn anything.  My fault and the last 4 months I have been watching others and trying to understand what they do. What I have learned is every channel I follow teaches you something or gives advice on what they are doing.  Now some of the drink channels are faceless and show just how drinks are made but their camera and video work are amazing.  I might try this but need to be able to teach or entertain. Interests:  I bounce around between all those things and like to discuss and entertain around them.  The “Experts” say you need to Niche down and find a problem and solve the problem.  I think maybe my problem to solve is just to entertain people for 5 min. a day and forget about the world.  I am the NICHE.  I have no clue if this will work, and I will continue learning and growing and maybe bring some of you other GenX with me or teach the other generations a few things. So come along GenX and enjoy everything I enjoy and maybe help me learn or be entertained by things you do.  I understand technology but I also have a problem with the video and recording and making things look great so you will see some raw footage and stuff that you may not see with other channels and accounts. That will be part of the fun. Favorite Things: Thanksgiving is my favorite Holiday Best Beers are Stouts and Porters. Oktober Fest is the best beer and should only be brewed and sold End of September and Oktober. The best teams to follow are the Badgers.  Football and Basketball.  On Wisconsin NFL Team, I follow is the Packers.  Da Bears Still Suck Horse Racing my favorite Track is Churchill downs but, Tampa Bay Downs is a close second. Love the Triple Crown First Saturday in May is a big party. Love golf as in playing and watching.  Yes, it can be like paint drying but, those guys are good. The best golf tournament is the MASTERS.  Favorite cocktail One that is made at home.  Besides that, it is the Old Fashioned.  Friday nights in Wisconsin are O.F.F – Old Fashioned Friday. Nothing better than a cigar and a bourbon, beer, or cocktail. Poker is a great way to get together with friends.  One of my favorite games is No Limit Hold ‘em but, I also really enjoy Omaha. Most of you won’t know what Sheepshead is.  This is a German card game mainly played in Wisconsin and parts of Atlanta. My favorite Bourbon is Old Forester 1920 and anything else that is BiB.  (Bottle in Bond) Favorite distillery to visit is Bardstown Bourbon Company. Thank you for reading leave a comment let me know what some of your favorites are. Junior.

Greater Whiskey Open 2023

Greater Whiskey Open I was asked to play in the Greater Whiskey Open at my golf club yesterday.  The entry is a $40+ bottle of whiskey (bourbon) and $100 to cover food, skins, and hole prizes.  Your team consisted of two players, and you were paired with another group.  The first six holes were a scramble, the next six holes were one best ball of two, and the final six holes were true alternate shots.  This is where the fun really starts. Both people place each other in places they may not have played before. Or miss a putt…  Before the round started, para-mutual betting existed for first and second-place finishers.  All 28 guys knew each other from the club, and there was a lot of camaraderie and good luck from everyone. The opening group comprised the previous year’s winners and their playing partners.  All 28 guys gathered around the first tee for the opening ceremonies, which consisted of a shot and a group picture with the trophy shown below.  The winners each year sign the trophy. Here is an image of the bottles each participant brought for the entry fee and to be given away to the top teams. The Play Each 6 holes, you were given your handicap based on the teams’ handicaps down to the tenth of a point.  My partner and I were getting 1.7 strokes on the scramble, which were on both par 5s.  On the best ball, I was given 1 stroke, and my partner had 4 of the holes with a stroke.  On the alternate shot, we received 5.7 strokes. Highlights Highlights for us were the fact we had three gross birdies on the scramble and had par on the other three holes.   Pretty good for a 7 hdcp and a 21 hdcp.  Better ball; we had one bogey and five pars with hdcp ended up under par.  The fun started for us on the alternate shot.  The first hole of the alternate shot was a par 3.  In this event, for this first hole, we both could tee off and then choose which shot to start the alternate shot.  We chose poorly and ended with a gross double.  On the next hole, my partner had a really nice drive. The approach was five feet, and we sank the putt for a gross birdie.  Great, so after two holes gross, we were +1.  It’s not a horrible way to start the alternate shot.  The next two holes made gross par, and things looked really good.  Then came another Par 3.  The short tee shot and bad chip lead to a bad putt, another bad putt, and a tap in 5.  Another double on the par 3.  OUCH.  It’s the last hole, and we still think we are in really good shape with our first 12 and then playing okay in the alternate shot.  It was a decent tee shot, then hit well over the green.  Now this chip coming back is staring straight downhill to water.  Partner leaves it short.  Ok, no problem.  Oops, I leave it short.  My partner hits it on, and we two-putt for a 7.  It’s a really big ouch to end with a gross triple bogey.  The enjoyment of alternate shot! The Score Overall, we played really well and ended up taking second place, giving us three bottles of whiskey.  These were the bottles I picked.  The Old Forrester is a barrel pick from a local liquor store. Winners also get to take the trophy for the year.  After the dust settled, we took home one skin and second place.  We ended up taking second by less than one stroke, so the last two finishing holes were even more painful.  REALLY BIG OUCH.  The fun of alternate shot and two guys really having a great time on the course.  The event was run really well and was a great day. Playing the six holes of different golf made the day really interesting.  Can’t wait for next year to see if we can take home the trophy. Junior.

3-Club Challenge

3-Club Challenge I am playing in a 3-Club challenge for 9-Holes at my golf club.  First question is what 3 Clubs do you take?  Putter counts as a club.  Putt with a wedge?  3-Iron?  We will be playing your normal tees.  Thoughts are running through my head.  The way I think I am going to choose my clubs will be taking the longest par 4 and dividing yardage by 2 so I can get home in 2 with whatever longest club I choose.  From there I am going to decide on a mid to short iron.  One that will let me hit a variety of distances.  Finally, I am going to take a wedge of some sort.  Pitching or 50 degree is my thinking now. Another thought, longest par 4 is 445 yards and the shortest is 386 yards.  Thinking taking a 200-yard club would get me home on all but, the longest par 4 if I hit it correctly.  Plus, that club should be able to take down yardage by choking down or ¾ swings.  Then take a 140-yard club for chipping and getting out of trouble.  This club could also be pitching so I could take my putter for on the greens.  With this thinking an up and down would be needed for the longest par 4 as I can get there with a 200-yard club.  Benefit is the putter on the greens.  Get there and then have an advantage. Now I am leaning for the 2nd thought. Will know more tomorrow and let everyone know how it went. Junior

US Open 2022

US Open 2022 Howdy and welcome to Junior’s Bourbon Hall.  Today we are going to discuss the US Open 2022. The PGA tour does not run the event and has very little say in who will or is allowed to play in the event.  Shoe it up make qualifying and you are in the US Open.  The best golfers in the world will be teeing it up at a historic golf course for four days.  The rough will be long the greens will be lightning fast and there will be a few people blowing up due to the pain the setup will cause.  As a passionate golf fan, I will be glued to the TV for hours everyday watching and waiting and enjoying.  I will not care if they are part of the LIV Tour or the PGA or just the guy that got lucky in qualifying and made the event.  It will be thrilling to watch the final holes on Sunday as the US Open winner is crowned.  This is what a golf event is about.  Guys teeing shoeing it up and playing their hearts out for the victory. LIV Tour players.  Some would say that they should not be playing in the event that they broke away just for the cash.  Who hasn’t taken a new job or something for more money?   Another tour will bring change to the game.  Good and bad but, change none the less.  PGA was created by people who broke away from the PGA Of America.  Now we have a break away again.  Question I have is why is the PGA cracking down on the players on the LIV Tour so hard?  Many times the top guys only show up for 15 – 20 events a year.  So if the LIV Events clash and they still play the LIV events does it really matter if they still play the required PGA Events.  Hell Tiger will only play 5 events this year but, they are not penalizing him.  Yes, he is Tiger and the rules are different but, the PGA should have the rule book they are holding the players to.  My opinion is let them play where they want and maybe improve the PGA on TV and online.   Good luck to all of the players this week at the US Open.  Play your best and may you come out of top.  Or if you are one of the qualifiers soak it all in and enjoy the time on the course. Cheers and enjoy your favorite beverage over the next four days. Junior

PGA Championship

Howdy, welcome to Junior’s Bourbon Hall.  We will step aside from Bourbon for a bit as we are in Major Golf Week.  Well not totally we are sipping on one as we write this.  First major in 13 months and feels good to see big boys all together playing out in CA.  TPC Harding Park looks to be a great challenge for the players this week.  Watching could be a challenge as you must have ESPN+ for the daytime coverage. This is a bit late but, here is what I have place a wager on for this Major: First Round Leader Vic Hoveland, Cam Champ, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele Outright Winner Gary Woodland and Dustin Johnson Top 5 Tiger Woods and Adam Scott Top 10 Paul Casey Tommy Fleetwood Sergio Garcia Phil Mickelson Good luck to others who may have placed a small wager on the PGA Championship. Now sit back enjoy that Bourbon and watch some fantastic golf. Junior

Morning / Afternoon Golf

Howdy, welcome to the Sunday golf discussion.  Watching the Sunday round of the WGC – FedEx St. Jude Invitational (Go Phil) and started thinking about playing golf.  Do you prefer to play morning or afternoon golf? Morning: Light dew on the greens and fairways Playing quickly. All morning players love the 3 hour or under 18-hole rounds No beverage cart Early to rise to get to the course Limited practice session before heading out Greens change as the dew and sun come out Lunch at the course. Do you drink at 10:30 AM? Chores around the house get done Afternoon: Sun baked fairways and greens. (Faster) Generally slower unless you catch the perfect time Beverage cart for that aiming fluid Head to the course at a chosen time Plenty of practice time to get ready for the round Dinner at the course afterwards or cocktails or both. (I chose both) Once you hit the course nothing else matters and chores better be done, or they will be tomorrow Now that you have seen the positives and negatives here is my take.  Morning golf is for the guys you like to play with.  Get the gamble on and go win the match.  You are there to golf and talk trash to each other.  Play quickly and can still get back home to get other items done around the house. Afternoon golf is the time to work on a few things and play with the family or friends as couples.  You are there to socialize plod along and enjoy the gorgeous weather while playing some golf.  While you may have a game, you will just be out for a great afternoon of fun and beverages. Either way get out play and enjoy the limited weather in the Midwest. Now sit back relax and watch the finish. Junior

The Masters

This past weekend should have been the masters held at Augusta. This is the sign for the start of spring. missing the tournament was a huge disappointment for myself. Living in the Midwest winter still has not let go and seeing the green grass and people wearing short sleeves and hitting the white golf ball around shows that warmer weather is on the way. I do understand that the event will be played in November but, don’t believe it will be the same. Winter is back it won’t be the first major of the year and could end up being just another event on the schedule. I don’t see anyone skipping as it is a major but, ryder cup is 6 weeks before so may of the European players will have to travel back for this event.. As of now the masters looks like it will be the last major of the year which just doesn’t seem right. The schedule has all of the majors in August and September then 6 weeks off to play the masters. Will the event be the same?? I don’t believe so and will just feel off. The virus that is causing all of this havoc needs to be gone so the world can get back to enjoying life
