Introduction:

Howdy, Junior’s Bourbon Hall.  It is January and the temperature keeps dropping.  Here is an old-fashioned to keep you warm when the darkness sets at 4:30 PM.  We are talking about Winter Old-Fashioned.  The spiced simple syrup takes this cocktail to the next level to warm your belly.

This is a simple to make cocktail and will quickly become one of your favorites.

Ingredients Winter Old-Fashioned:

Winter Old-Fashioned

2 oz Bourbon
.25 oz Spiced Simple Syrup
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
Orange Peel for Garnish

Instructions:

  • In a Mixing Glass combine the bourbon, Spiced Syrup, and the Bitters.
  • Add Ice to the Mixing Glass
  • Stir the concoction to combine and chill the cocktail
  • Grab a Rocks Glass
  • Add a large sphere of ice
  • Strain the concoction from the mixing glass to the Rocks Glass
  • Garnish with an Orange Twist

Sip, Warm Up, and Enjoy the flavorful easy to make cocktail.  You will also be able to impress your family and friends with this old-fashioned.

Syrup in Recipe:

  • 1 cup demerara sugar (or turbinado, muscovado, or brown sugar)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks, broken into smaller pieces
  • 4 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • 3 allspice berries
  • 1 orange peel 2-4″ in length

Instructions for Syrup:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and set the heat to medium.
  2. Stir frequently until all the sugar has dissolved, then bring the liquid to a boil.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer the mixture for 5-10 minutes, or until flavorful.
  4. Remove the pan from the heat and allow the liquid to cool completely before removing the solids.
  5. Store the spiced simple syrup in a closed container (like a glass bottle) in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
